Hello,
I am trying to find out how my family ended up with the last name of LANG.
What I know is:
My GGrandfather was Carl Guy LANG(born in 1892/93 in West Virginia).
The majority of his immediate decendents were born and/or buried in Nicholas County.
Carl Guy's mother was Elizabeth PERKINS.
Carl Guy was illigitimate -- with his mother never revealing who his father was. However... Carl Guy was given the surname of LANG (which Elizabeth never used).
We have only one possible "family story" lead. Apparently there was a Nelson LANG who owned/ran Weirton Steel. This is the only clue I have as to the possible origin. I can find no other LANG surnames in the area.
Other information (just in case it is helpful):
Carl Guy married Bessie ARMENTROUT in approximately 1910 (she died in 1937 and is buried in Blacks Chapel Cemetary in Nicholas County) and had Roy Lew LANG. Bessie was the daughter of Lorenzo Jerdan and Virgina Elizabeth ARMENTROUT. After Bessie's death, Carl Guy married Lucy TETER (approximate marriage date 1939).
These families lived in the Nicholas County area.
Carl Guy LANG died approximately 1976. He died in Stuebenville, OH while living in a nursing home.
If you can be of any help, I would be appreciative.
Aside from the obvious brick wall (which can never be torn down) -- it is pretty strange to have the last name of some unknown, unrevealed person.
Thank you very much.
