We are seeking information on the CONTE and NELSON family, which lived in Nicholas County, WV., sometime between the 1910s and the 1920s.
Specific individuals we're seeking information on are capitalized.
SILVIO BRUNO CONTE, SR. (nicknamed "Sam") was born on the island of Ponza, Italy, on October 23, 1894. His parents were CAMILLO CONTE (b. about 1875 in Italy?) And FRANCIS SCOTTI (b. about 1875 in Italy?). After emigrating to the USA (between 1910-1912), sometime between 1918 and 1920 he became a coal miner, and married BERTHA NELSON (b. between 1893 and 1900 in Ireland). They had four children in the areas of Richwood, Mallory, and Huntington, West Virginia:
1) LUCILLE AMELIA CONTE, b. 1920.
2) HAROLD "Red" CONTE, b. 1921.
3) JOSEPH BENJAMIN CONTE, b. 1923.
4) FRANCES CONTE, b. 1925.
Bertha died between 1925 and 1927, perhaps in WV or PA. We do not know her parents' names or where she was born in Ireland. But we are desperate to learn anything we can about her!
Sometime in the late 1920s, Silvio Sr. then married his 2nd wife, DULCIE ELIZABETH WALKUP, who was born on March 25, 1907 in Renick (Greenbriar County), WV.
Together Silvio and Dulcie had 8 children (perhaps in or around the areas of Richwood, West Virginia and/or Ellsworth, Pennsylvania):
1) MARY GILDA CONTE, b. November 1925.
2) AMELIA CONTE, born in Richwood, WV, perhaps in the late 1920s.
3) AUGUSTINO CONTE.
4) DAVID CONTE.
5) SILVIO CONTE JR.
6) EUGENE CONTE.
7) JAMES CONTE.
8) DANIEL CONTE.
In 1943, Silvio Sr. and Dulcie moved to the Detroit, Michigan area, where most of their children, now grown, are still living. On October 10, 1975, Silvio Sr. died in Detroit (of a heart attack). Dulcie died on August 28, 1989, in Warren, Michigan. Dulcie's parents were OSA (or OTIS?) WALKUP (b. January 28, 1874, in Greenbriar County, WV) and UNA RUCKER (b. 1884, in Greenbriar County, WV). If you have any information pertaining to any of the above individuals (even if you're not related), please contact us. We would very much like to complete our family tree and connect with relatives.
